November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the importance of early detection and the impact of this disease. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women, causing more deaths than colorectal, pancreatic and breast cancers combined. With only 24% of lung tumors diagnosed at early stages, it's clear that raising awareness and promoting screening is essential. In honor of this important month, Roswell Park’s Eddy, or Early Detection Driven to You, mobile lung cancer screening unit will be at Holiday Valley this November to provide screenings for eligible individuals and raise awareness about lung cancer early detection.
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Eddy, a mobile lung cancer screening unit, is coming to Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY, this November, offering screenings for eligible individuals. Open to the eligible public, Eddy aims to raise awareness about lung cancer and highlights the importance of early detection with educational resources available.

More than 36% of New York State residents living in counties with the highest rates of lung cancer deaths must drive at least an hour to access a low-dose CT scan. That’s why Roswell Park’s Eddy, the mobile lung cancer early detection clinic, is coming to the Ellicottville community to provide lung cancer screenings for eligible individuals. Screening on EDDY is recommended for people with a 20-year history of heavy smoking, between the ages of 50 and 79, who have smoked within the last 15 years. Individuals who have a history of lung, esophagus, head, or neck cancer may also qualify for screening. The lung cancer screening is quick, painless, and easy; the CT scan takes just 30 seconds, with only a few seconds of breath-holding, and uses significantly less radiation than other imaging tests.
To confirm eligibility and schedule an appointment, people should contact 1-800-Roswell or visit Roswell Park online.
