A Tribute to a Founding Member

Edna Northrup made her first trip to Ellicottville in 1944 to ski at Greer Hill.  In the winter of 1956-1957, Edna, her husband Doc, and the other founding members of Holiday Valley banded together to sell shares of “Win-Sum Ski Corp.” stock for $100 from a card table set up on the dirt road across from the proposed ski trails (now Yodeler and Edelweiss).  Looking back on Holiday Valley’s history in the early 2000s, Edna said, “In my wildest dreams I never could have imagined what Holiday Valley would become.” Her adventurous spirit and dedication to the resort have been a cornerstone in shaping Holiday Valley into a destination that boasts 13 lifts, 60 slopes and trails, 3 base lodges, two hotels, a golf course, pools, an aerial park, a mountain coaster and a number of other amenities.

The Significance of the Name

The new restaurant concept is a fitting tribute to a woman who helped shape the resort into what it is today.  Edna’s at the Tamarack Club celebrates the long tradition of joyous camaraderie and warm friendships that arise out of sharing a love for skiing and the outdoors.
